Men struggling with mental health issues may often face specific barriers to treatment due to longstanding social and cultural expectations. Rigid perspectives (“seeking help is a weakness”) and harmful views of masculinity (“just to man up”) may prevent many men from engaging in the help they need, leaving emotional turmoil to bottle up and manifest in aggression and high risk behaviors. These include: uncontrollable anger, high irritability, addiction and substance dependency, intimacy issues, poor body image and self esteem, feeling torn between role expectations in the home and work place; all in addition to more conventional issues like anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation. We offer a tailored counseling approach for men seeking understanding, empowerment, and support in navigating these life challenges.
